Skater's 'Worst Nightmare' Takes Place on Olympic IceFebruary 19, 2018 12:17pm

First it was figure skater Yura Min whose costume glitch caused her a moment of distress at the Olympics. Now one of Min's French counterparts can claim the same, though Gabriella Papadakis' experience led to a bit more on-ice embarrassment.

As Papadakis started her short program routine Monday with partner Guillaume Cizeron, the back of her costume popped open, and toward the end of the program, her left breast ended up exposed, the Washington Post and USA Today report.

Papadakis later told reporters it was her "worst nightmare," causing her to leave the ice in tears and rely on Cizeron to answer most of the post-skate questions immediately afterward.

"Not great" is all the 22-year-old could muster when asked how she was doing.

Despite the "oh no" moment, the duo ended up in second place, with a score of 81.93 and Tuesday's free-dance competition still on the horizon; Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are in first place with a score of 83.67.

"It's just frustrating to miss a few points because of a costume issue," said Cizeron, 23. "That's not what we get ready for when we train." Papadakis said she realized right away her costume had come undone and simply "prayed," adding, "I told myself I didn't have a choice and that I had to keep going." Meanwhile, Min didn't take any chances before her individual program on Sunday: She said she had herself stitched into her costume beforehand so there was no chance of it coming off.

"It's on her for life," joked her skating partner, Alexander Gamelin, per the Detroit Free Press.
